ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, met with Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Germany, in the presence of Dr Günter Sautter, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation and addressing pressing regional and international developments.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah conveyed the greetings of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Chancellor Merz, along with his wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Germany and its people.

In return, Chancellor Friedrich Merz extended his greetings to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and expressed his wishes for the continued development and prosperity of the UAE and its citizens.

Expanding UAE-Germany Cooperation Across Strategic Sectors

The discussions focused on the longstanding strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany and explored avenues to further strengthen cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, energy, innovation, and economic development.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Germany in ways that advance mutual interests and support both nations’ visions for sustainable economic growth and comprehensive development.

He emphasized that the UAE values its strong partnership with Germany as part of its broader strategy to enhance international cooperation and build resilient economic and diplomatic relations with leading global partners.

UAE Highlights Commitment to Regional Security and Stability

The meeting also addressed recent regional developments, including the repercussions of the Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilian sites and facilities in the UAE.

Discussions included the recent terrorist drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory, including an attack targeting an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

Chancellor Merz reiterated Germany’s solidarity with the UAE and strongly condemned the terrorist attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and regional security.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed appreciation for Germany’s supportive stance and reaffirmed that the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the UAE remain a top priority.

International Cooperation Essential for Protecting Global Trade

Both sides also discussed the broader implications of such attacks on international maritime navigation, global energy supplies, and the world economy.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening international cooperation to safeguard maritime corridors, maintain regional stability, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade and commerce.

Senior UAE Officials Attend High-Level Meeting

The meeting was attended by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, and Ahmed Wahib Al Attar, reflecting the importance the UAE places on strengthening strategic ties with Germany and advancing international diplomatic engagement.
