ISLAMABAD – The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Islamabad celebrated Oman’s National Day with a grand and elegant reception on Friday, bringing together a distinguished assembly of dignitaries, diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, and media representatives. Federal Minister for Railways, Mr. Hanif Abbasi, attended as Chief Guest, adding to the significance of the occasion.
In his keynote address, His Excellency Ambassador Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Al Kharusi delivered a comprehensive and insightful overview of Oman’s rich history, diplomatic vision, and enduring commitment to peace and development. He highlighted that the National Day commemorates the establishment of the Al Bu Said State on November 20, 1744, by Imam Ahmad bin Said Al Busaidi, whose leadership unified the nation and laid the foundations of the modern Omani state—one grounded in sovereignty, unity, and dignity.
Ambassador Al Kharusi emphasized that the celebration is also a tribute to the Sultans of Oman who, across generations, have safeguarded the country’s unity, prosperity, and civilizational role both regionally and internationally. He reflected on Oman’s remarkable journey since the Renaissance of 1970, initiated by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and proudly carried forward today under the wise, forward-looking leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
He noted that His Majesty’s renewed national vision preserves Oman’s authentic identity while embracing modernity—paving the way toward greater prosperity, innovation, and sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Al Kharusi reaffirmed Oman’s steadfast diplomatic philosophy rooted in positive neutrality, balance, dialogue, and respect for the UN Charter and international law. He reiterated Oman’s consistent call for de-escalation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
He stressed the vital role of the United Nations Security Council in upholding international peace, security, and justice, and reiterated Oman’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international legitimacy. He underscored that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
Ambassador Al Kharusi added that any temporary cessation of hostilities must be used to revive a credible political process that ensures the legitimate rights of all parties and strengthens regional stability. He reaffirmed Oman’s principled stand against violations of state sovereignty and its support for all initiatives that promote peace, protect civilians, and encourage constructive dialogue.
Turning to bilateral relations, Ambassador Al Kharusi highlighted the growing momentum in Oman–Pakistan ties, marked by an increase in high-level diplomatic, cultural, and economic engagements. He emphasized enhanced cooperation in culture, sports, and defence as strong indicators of the deepening friendship and shared aspirations between the two nations.
The evening reception concluded on a warm and celebratory note, with guests enjoying an array of traditional Omani and Arabic cuisine. The event not only celebrated Oman’s National Day but also underscored the strong bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and expanding strategic partnership between Oman and Pakistan.
