Riyadh Hosts Premiere of Film Celebrating Morocco’s Legendary Traveler Ibn Battuta

A dazzling celebration of Moroccan culture and heritage took center stage in Riyadh with the premiere of “Ibn Battuta: The World’s Traveler”, a cinematic journey retracing the legendary Moroccan explorer’s historical Hajj pilgrimage and his vast travels across the Islamic world.

The event, attended by dignitaries, diplomats, historians, and cinema enthusiasts, highlighted Morocco’s deep-rooted cultural ties with the broader Arab and Islamic world. The film sheds new light on Ibn Battuta — born in Tangier in 1304 — whose adventures spanned over 120,000 kilometers across Africa, Asia, and Europe, earning him the title of “The Greatest Traveler of the Medieval World.”

Through stunning visuals and authentic storytelling, the film follows Ibn Battuta’s spiritual and intellectual journey as he embarked on his first Hajj pilgrimage from Morocco to Mecca, continuing through Egypt, the Levant, and beyond. It not only celebrates his life but also showcases Morocco’s historical role as a center of learning, exploration, and cultural exchange.

The Riyadh premiere marks a significant cultural collaboration between Morocco and Saudi Arabia, reinforcing shared values of discovery, faith, and curiosity. The screening was followed by a panel discussion featuring Moroccan filmmakers, historians, and cultural ambassadors who emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Morocco’s heritage through cinema.

“This film is more than a historical account; it is a tribute to Morocco’s enduring spirit of exploration and openness to the world,” said one of the producers. “Ibn Battuta’s journey reminds us that curiosity and faith can unite civilizations.”

The premiere serves as part of a broader cultural diplomacy effort to introduce global audiences to Morocco’s rich history and contributions to world heritage, while inspiring new generations to explore, learn, and connect — just as Ibn Battuta did seven centuries ago.
