Ambassador of Ethiopia Meets President Zardari, Expresses Solidarity Amid Climate Crisis

ISLAMABAD — H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, called on H.E. Asif Ali Zardari, the Honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and People of Ethiopia over the tragic loss of lives caused by the recent flash floods in various regions of Pakistan. He expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the affected families and communities.

The Ambassador emphasized that Pakistan, despite being among the lowest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, continues to bear the brunt of climate-related disasters. “Pakistan is paying a heavy price for a crisis it did not create,” Dr. Jemal Beker stated, reaffirming Ethiopia’s unwavering support to Pakistan in its fight against climate change.

He highlighted the importance of global unity and South-South cooperation to combat environmental challenges and reiterated Ethiopia’s readiness to work closely with Pakistan on climate resilience and sustainable development.

President Zardari expressed gratitude for Ethiopia’s support and shared condolences. He praised the strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia, noting significant progress in the areas of peace and security, trade, investment, science and technology, aviation, climate change, tourism, and culture.

The President reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing relations with African nations under its “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy, and commended Ethiopia’s pivotal role in promoting regional integration, economic cooperation, and environmental leadership across the African continent and beyond.

The meeting marked yet another milestone in the deepening of diplomatic and development cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
