Islamabad – In a constructive step toward deepening economic cooperation, Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, met with the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Neil Hawkins, at the Ministry of Petroleum today. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral collaboration in the vital sectors of energy and mining, with a strong emphasis on investment, technology transfer, and skills development.

Minister Malik highlighted Pakistan’s growing commitment to enhancing energy security and welcomed Australian expertise in both mining and renewable energy. He underscored the immense potential for Australian firms to invest in Pakistan’s evolving energy landscape and contribute to sustainable, long-term development.

High Commissioner Hawkins lauded the recent economic progress achieved under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, particularly improvements in the current account and profit repatriation that have revived the confidence of multinational investors. He expressed strong interest from Australian mining companies in exploring Pakistan’s mineral-rich regions, noting Australia’s readiness to bring world-class expertise to help unlock this potential.

One of the key proposals discussed was collaboration between Australian universities, mining firms, and Pakistani institutions to offer specialized training in modern mining techniques. This initiative, aimed at capacity-building and skills development, is expected to boost local talent and enhance operational efficiency in Pakistan’s mining sector.

Minister Malik welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed Pakistan’s appreciation for Australia’s advanced capabilities in mining and energy innovation. “We value Australia’s technical knowledge and stand ready to facilitate partnerships that strengthen our local industries and attract much-needed investment,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to deepen institutional linkages, pursue joint ventures, and explore new avenues for cooperation. The shared vision reflects the growing strategic relationship between Pakistan and Australia, centered on mutual economic growth and sustainable sectoral development.
