The airline will start this service in February 2024.

  •  flydubai will become the first airline to offer flights between the UAE and the popular Malaysian islands of Penang and Langkawi, starting in February 2024.
  •  The new flights to Malaysia will give convenient options to passengers looking to travel to the popular Malaysian islands.
  •  flydubai will operate a daily flight from Dubai to Penang, continuing on to Langkawi. It will use its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for this service, featuring lie-flat seats in business class.

Low-cost carrier flydubai will launch flights to the popular Malaysian islands of Langkawi and Penang early next year. While the UAE and Kuala Lumpur are connected with non-stop services from Emirates and Etihad Airways, this is the first time that the UAE will have direct connectivity with Penang and Langkawi.

New flights to Malaysia

flydubai has announced that it is set to become the first airline to operate flights between the UAE and the popular Malaysian islands of Penang and Langkawi. The daily service will start in February 2024. Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, commented.

Schedule and equipment

flydubai will launch this daily flight on February 10th, 2024. The non-stop flight from Dubai to Penang will continue on to Langkawi, giving passengers easier options to travel to these popular tourist destinations from Dubai.

The carrier will use its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for this service, featuring lie-flat seats in business class. flydubai has more than 45 737 MAXs in its fleet and relies heavily on the type for most of its flights.

Earlier this year, flydubai celebrated its 14th birthday. It launched operations in June 2009 and, since then, has gone on to build an expansive network covering 120 destinations across more than 50 countries.

The airline has been steadily expanding its network and frequencies recently. While its Langkawi and Penang flights are expected to attract plenty of tourists, they aren’t the only Asian island attractions in its network.

flydubai grew its Krabi and Pattaya flights in Thailand earlier this year to twice daily. The Thai vacation destinations attract thousands of tourists from around the world, and flydubai decided to get a larger share of that pie.

Earlier this year, the airline also launched its largest-ever recruitment drive to support its growth after the pandemic. flydubai said that it was planning to recruit more than 1,100 people by the end of this year to fuel its plans of further expansion across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

flydubai is seeing a massive comeback of passengers, resulting in the mass hiring of new employees. In the first quarter of 2023, between January 1st and March 31st, the airline carried 3.37 million passengers, double the number of passengers in the same period in 2022.
